If your feed has been full of a white-haired grandpa gliding side to side in a packed night crowd in Rio, you've met the Baile Charme trend. Here's what charme is, where the clip came from, how the AI grandpa took over, and how to join in.
What is charme dance?
Charme is Rio de Janeiro's soul and R&B party dance, born in the early 1980s. The steps are small and smooth: gliding side steps, rolling shoulders and cool turns, danced by the whole crowd at once to slow R&B and soul.
"Baile" means dance party in Portuguese, so a baile charme is a charme party, as opposed to a baile funk. The best-known one runs under the Viaduto de Madureira, in Rio's North Zone. Charme also fills the street parties at Pedra do Sal, a historic square in Rio's old port, in Saúde.
Where the trend started: a night at Pedra do Sal
On 7 August 2026, the dancer @zenegaooficial posted his charme on TikTok, filmed in the packed Pedra do Sal night crowd. By 19 October 2026 the clip had 1.6 million views and 275,200 likes. On 24 September 2026 he danced there again with a friend, and that video reached 472,000 views.

Seu Zé de Madureira, the AI grandpa
On 16 October 2026, @seuzerj posted an AI edit of that crowd scene with an AI-made character in the dancer's place: Seu Zé de Madureira, a white-haired grandpa with a white afro, round glasses, a moustache, a red shirt and suspenders. The caption: "Ninguém botou fé no vovô no baile charme" ("Nobody believed in grandpa at the baile charme"). The reel had 103,200 views by 19 October.
Seu Zé is not a real person. He's an AI character, which is exactly why the format is so easy to copy: anyone can take his place.
The CapCut template wave
A closed CapCut template followed. Brazilian creators call it "dança AI retrô" or "Festa Charme", and many tutorials mislabel it "Brazilian funk dance AI". Most versions of the template put action-movie stars in Seu Zé's place.

The sound
The reel's sound is listed on TikTok as "som original - seuzerj", an R&B/charme track. It belongs to its owners.
How to join the trend
You don't need CapCut or a dance floor. Baile Charme AI has two templates, each starting from one photo:
| Version | Your photo | What happens | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Person | One photo of yourself (people only) | You dance the charme side steps in Seu Zé's place | Homepage |
| Pet | One dog, cat or other pet (pets only) | Your pet stands on its hind legs and does the side steps as the crowd claps | Pet version |
There's no viral pet version of this trend yet. The pet template is our own twist: your pet at the baile charme.
Both follow the first 15 seconds of @seuzerj's reel and give you a vertical 9:16 MP4 with the reel's sound and no watermark, 10 seconds or the whole 15-second take. A switch on the finished video turns the sound off if you'd rather add the TikTok sound yourself. Our step-by-step guide walks through it, and the photo guide explains which photos work best.
It's not free, but there's no subscription: one video without an account starts at $4.99, or buy a one-time credit pack on the pricing page. If your photo is rejected or a render fails, you get your money or credits back automatically.
Which Baile Charme AI tool should I use?
A few tools make it, including the CapCut template, MakeViral and Kavel. We compared them on people, pets, length and sound in Baile Charme AI video generators compared.
Is this official?
No. Baile Charme AI is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with the trend's creators, the dancers in its clips, or CapCut.
